AP to provide scholoships to all minority students: CM

Hyderabad, Jan 13 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today said his Government would allocate Rs 33 crore to provide scholorships to all Muslim minority students next year as against Rs ten crore allocated last year.

Inaugurating the National Seminar on 'challenges and opportunities for Indian Muslims'( Sachar Committee report), organised by AP United Muslim Action Committee here, Dr Reddy said the Government would make all possible efforts to see that that every Muslim minorty student at pre and post metric level gets scholorship in the state.

Stating that the higher education level for minorities was reasonably good compared to other states, but the education at lower level was in bad condition, the Chief Minister said 12 hostels, exclusively for muslims students, would be established and upgrade the madrasas by providing computer and modern education.

Union minister of State for Human Resource Development (HRD) Mohammed Ashraf Ali Fatmi said the State Governments should take initiative in implementing the recommendations of Sachar committee report.

Mr Fatmi said there was need to nominate minority candidates in the State Public Service Commissions and the recruitment boards make sure that the meritorious muslim students were selected for the Government jobs.

Dr Abusaleh Shariff, Chief Economist of National Council for Applied Economics Research and Member of Prime Minister's High level Committee, All India Mujlis- e- Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Salahuddin Owaisi and Hyderbad MP Asaduddin Owaisi were among others present on the occasion.
