AIGPA appeals to FM for inviting glass sector, seeks relaxation

New Delhi, Jan 13 (UNI) Aiming to avail some relaxation from the Government, the All India Glass Processors Association (AIGPA) has appealed to Finance Minister P Chidambaram to invite the glass sector for consultations with the upcoming budget 2007-08.

''If this sector receives relaxation in Central taxes, special rebates in import duties, the growth rate would rise tremendously which in turn will strengthen the economy of the country,'' AIGPA President cum Gold Plus Group CMD Subhash Tyagi said in a statement here.

He added that the glass sector growing at an annual growth rate of 20-23 per cent is playing a vital role in building the Indian economy, and thus cannot be neglected.

The industry provides direct employmet to more than half a million people and around one million people indirectly, Mr Tyagi said.
