YSR Reddy apprises Planning Commission about govt's policies
New Delhi, Jan 12 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today met Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia to discuss the progress of developmental policies and programmes under his government.
Apprising the Planning Commission Chief, Dr Reddy said his government had undertaken revival of traditional village tanks utilizing NREGP funds in a big way to benefit a large section of population in water conservation, irrigation and fisheries.
The State Government had also taken up construction on a large scale, constructing about 20 lakh houses during the year. He also sought adding five more districts under the NREGP and increase in the grant percentage under AIBP from the present 30 per cent level.
On his part, Dr Ahluwalia appreciated the A P programmes, specially the transparent reporting system of beneficiaries under NREGP. Union Finance Minister Dr Chidambaram also appreciated the software used by the AP government and said the Commission was asking other States to follow suit. He also expressed his wish to visit some of the revived tanks.
The Commission also appreciated A P's efforts for reducing Transmission and Distribution losses in the power sector.
