Two passengers arrested, contraband worth Rs 30 lakh seized

Chennai, Jan 12 (UNI) The officials of Air Intelligence Unit at Anna International Airport has seized unlicenced and restricted medicinal powder worth Rs 30 lakh from two passengers, who arrived here from Colombo.

In an official release here yesterday, Chennai Airport Commissioner of Customs C Rajan said the passengers Anjumul Huda Ajmul Huda (42) and Khatri Akbar Mohammad Khan (28) were intercepted on suspicion at the airport and on examination it was found that their bags contained the medicinal powder weighing 40 kgs.

He said the contraband were kept concealed in Oat meal packets, Pilsburry softa Silk Cake mix cartons and washing powder cartons.

A preliminary investigation had revealed that the duo travelled from Mumbai to Hongkong and were returning to Mumbai via Colombo and Chennai.

The duo were arrested and further investigations were on, he added.
