TN Govt files defamation case against Jaya

Chennai, Jan 12 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government today filed a defamation case against former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for her alleged defamatory statement.

City Public Prosecutor M Shahjahan filed the defamation complaint before Principal Sessions Court, on behalf of the State Government.

In his complaint, Mr Shahjahan submitted that a Tamil daily in its issue dated November 23 published the statement of Ms Jayalalithaa, in which she had allegedly made remarks against Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, pertaining to erection of MGR Statue in Parliament.

Stating that the remarks made by Ms Jayalalithaa per se defamatory, Mr Shahjahan said she made the remarks in order to malign Mr Karunanidhi.

He sought to consider his complaint, and punish Ms Jayalalithaa under section 500 and 501 of IPC.
