Shilp mela in city from Jan 15

Hyderabad, Jan 12 (UNI) Social, Educational and Vocational Association (SEVA) of Raichur, Karnataka, will organise 'Shilp Mela,' an exhibition-cum sale-cum demonstration of Kadai Kamal Embriodery and other colourful handicrafts produced by Self Help Groups from January 15 to 24.

Sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Union Ministry of Textiles, the exhibition would be held at the Y M C A hall, Secunderabad.

The Mela will be inaugurated by Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation Managing Director B Jayaraj. SEVA President Ms P Siddalingamma will be the Chief Guest, a release here said.

Dazzling and intricate Kadai embriodery patronized by the Nizams of Hyderabad would the main attraction in the Mela. SEVA of Raichur has been entrusted with the task of reviving and developing this languishing craft suited to the market requirements by the office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts).

The new products developed during the recently held design workshop at Raichur will be displayed and test marketed during the ten day exhibition. Other crafts from the SHGs on display and sale, include colourful Lacquerware from Channapatna, fruit toys of Gokak, terracotta jewellery, artificial jewellery and pearls, natural fibre products, Dharwad Kasuthi sarees, crafts from Andhra Pradesh, include cotton, dhurries, leather puppets, terracotta of Madanapalle, lace products and sea shell items.

There will also be demonstration of selected crafts like Kadai Kamal embriodery, terracotta, Gokak toys and tribal jewellery crafts to enable the craft lovers of the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad to witness the craft processes, the release added.
