Security alert along border with Bangladesh

Agartala, Jan 12 (UNI) The Border Security Force has been put on high alert following the declaration of emergency in Bangladesh, BSF sources here today said.

The sources said, ''We are always on alert and guarding the border to prevent any kind of infiltration from the neighbouring country.'' The sources told UNI, there was no report of infiltration across the border due to Makar Sankranti Utsav at Tirthmukh in the state's south district.

Every year, a large number of Bangladeshi pilgrims come to the state to take part in the fair as well as a holy dip in the Gomti river in the early hours of January 14 as part of Makarsankranti Utsav.

The BSF would act accordingly to stop infiltration along the 856-km-long border in Tripura during the festival, the sources said adding ''We are maintaining a close vigil on the situation and guarding the border.'' Meanwhile, Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC) sources said that during last few days, there were very small number of passengers going from here to the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka, due to political distrubances in that country.

''No TRTC buses would leave from here for Dhaka as there were no passengers,'' he said adding that it was not yet confirmed whether Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) buses from Dhaka would arrive in the day or not.
