Retiring Supreme Court CJ administers oath to three judges
New Delhi, Jan 12 (UNI) The Chief Justice of India Y K Sabharwal today administered the oath of office to three newly appointed judges of the Supreme Court.
Chief Justices of Bombay, Calcutta and Guwahati High Courts, Justices Harjit Singh Bedi, V S Sirpurkar and B S Reddy respectively were appointed Supreme Court judges after President A P J Abdul Kalam signed the warrant of appointment for the three judges yesterday.
With today's appointment of three judges the total strength of the SC judges has gone up to 25 which will again be reduced to 24 as the present Chief Justice retires tomorrow.
It was first in the history of the Supreme Court of India when an outgoing Chief Justice administered the oath of office to new judges.
Chief Justice Sabharwal was given the fairwell by the SC bar association on the lawns of the apex court.
