People continue to shiver under cold wave conditions in HP

Shimla, Jan 12 (UNI) People in Himachal Pradesh continue to shiver under cold wave conditions with night temperature at Kalpa in Kinnuar district of the state plummeting to minus 6.9 degree Celsius today, the met office said.

Several places in the higher altitude areas of the tribal districts of Kinnaur, Lahaul Spiti, Kullu and Chamba district were recording night temperatures between minus 15 and minus 25 degrees.

The met office said Kalpa had recorded a fall of over 2.2 degrees in the night temperature as compared to yesterday, adding that water discharge in the rivers had also fallen, affecting power generation in all the power projects of the state.

The day and night temperature in all the mid and higher hills of the state continue to plummet despite dry weather for over a month now and the locals said severe cold conditions were being experienced after several years.

The met office said Una town in the lower part of the state was also recording sub zero night temperatures, while the minimum temperature at Shimla dropped to one degree Celsius as against 2.3 degree Celsius recorded yesterday.

It said the day temperature of the State Capital had also plummeted to 10.1 degree from a high of 11.9 degrees recorded yesterday, even as cold icy winds blew across the state.

Sundernagar in Mandi district and Bhuntar in Kullu district recorded night temperatures of 0.4 and minus point four respectively.

The met office has predicted mainly clear sky in the state during the next 24 hrs.
