Militant plan to disrupt life in Kashmir ahead of R-Day foiled
Srinagar, Jan 12 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir police today claimed to have foiled a plan by militants to cause large-scale disturbances in the Valley ahead of the Republic Day.
Police said they seized an Improvised Explosive device (IED) along with a letter instructing militants to use the material to disrupt normal life ahead of the Republic Day.
Acting on specific information, police and troops of 33 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) averted a major tragedy after they seized a five-kg IED at Handwara in north Kashmir district of Kupwara today.
They also seized a letter written by Abu Zarar, a Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM) militant, asking the cadres to use the IED to disrupt the normal life ahead of the Republic Day.
The IED and the letter were seized from the house of Ali Mohammed Tantray at Palpora, police added.
The IED was defused on the spot and the house owner was arrested on whose instance one Chinese grenade and some incriminating material were seized. A case has been registered in this regard.
