Man rolls up and down hillock for world peace

Tiruchirapalli, Jan 12 (UNI) In a novel way to pray for the world peace and amicable solution to the Mullaperiyar dam row between Tamil Nadu and Kerala, a 40-year-old villager scaled the 273 foot high historic Rockfort hillock by rolling up and returning back in similar fashion here today.

It was for the tenth successive year that the man, S Nagarajan, hailing from Nangavaram village in Karur district embarked on this feat, taking just one hour to scale 418 rpt 418 rocky-steps.

A large number of people assembled at the foot of the hillock to witness the unique feat by Mr Nagarajan. On top of the hillock where the famous ''Uchchi Pillaiyar'' (Ganesh) temple is situated, he offered prayers for the world peace.

He received thunderous applause from the onlookers as he rolled down the last step, completing his task.

Later, talking to UNI, Mr Nagarajan said he also offered prayers for the victims of the tsunami on December 26, 2004.

What's more, Mr Nagarajan said he would perform the feat every year as long as he was fit.
