Major tragedy averted in Kashmir, IED on highway defused

Srinagar, Jan 12 (UNI) A major tragedy was averted today by the Road Opening Party (ROP), when they detected and later defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by militants on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway.

Official sources said a joint ROP of Jammu and Kashmir police and security forces noticed a 5 kg IED planted on the highway at Hamzapora, Bijbehara, in south Kashmir.

Traffic on the hihgway was stopped and bomb disposal squad summoned to defuse it.
