Industrial units from Rajasthan polluting Haryana fields

Chandigarh, Jan 12 (UNI) A number of farmers from Rewari district bordering Rajasthan have written to the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court here seeking intervention in recurrent pollution of their fields by the effluents discharged by industrial units in Rajasthan and the failure of the Haryana government to check this effectively.

In their communication, residents of village Maalpur district Rewari led by Abhey Singh a member of the Zila Parishad, Rewari and over 20 others have apprised that their village was situated on the border with Rajasthan. The effluents from these units were flowing into their fields badly damaging the crops and adversely affecting the soil too, the communication added.

However, their plea made to the state government had fallen on deaf ears, hence the communication for judicial intervention was needed.

Treating the letter as a PIL, Chief Justice Vijendra Jain and Justice Rajive Bhalla today issued notices to the Haryana government for March 5, to respond to the issue raised in the communication from the villagers. It has also been conveyed that some birds had also died in fields after they had consumed polluted water containing chemicals.
