HC refuses to grant more time to IIPM
New Delhi, Jan 12 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today refused to grant further time to the Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM) for vacating the premises in the Qutab Institutional Area in South Delhi allotted by the Government to the Canara Bank Relief and Welfare Society for running an NGO.
A bench of Chief Justice M K Sharma and Justice Rekha Sharma said no further time would be granted to the Institute as it had already given an undertaking before the court to vacate the premises at the end of the second month.
Senior Counsel Mukul Rastogi appearing for the IIPM submitted that the institute had paid Rs 47 lakh to the owner of the building for running the institute from the premises.
Thousands of students would be affected by the decision and the Supreme Court had granted concession to various schools and institutes till the end of the academic session, Mr Rastogi said.
Moreover, the Institute had taken a premises in Gurgaon in Haryana and would be shifting the institute as soon as it was complete, he added.
In November first week, the Delhi Development Authority(DDA), the land owning agency, had sealed the premises for illegally operating from premises given to an NGO for voluntary and social services.
The Institute was granted two months time to vacate the premises.
The DDA had granted permission for letting out 68 per cent of the premises by the owner and the IIPM was the lawful tenant, had said the petition by the Institute.
DDA Counsel Rajiv Bansal had submitted that the premises was sealed as the owner had flouted the provisions of the lease deed.
Many other premises allotted to various societies for setting up institutions in the area were being sealed by the authorities for misusing the lease deed.
