Govt sets up committee to restructure Bird: Paswan
New Delhi, Jan 12 (UNI) The Government has set up a committee under the Chairmanship of former Steel Secretary J K Bagchi for restructuring/reorganisation of Bird group of companies, announced the Steel Minister Ram Vilas Paswan here today.
He said the committee will submit its report within two months.
The first meeting of the Committee was held on January 8, this year.
The Bird group consists of seven companies which were nationalised in 1980 and they came under the administrative control of the Ministry of Steel.
The companies under the Bird group consists of Orissa Minerals Development Company Limited (OMDC), the Bisra Stone Lime Company Limited (BSLC), the Karanpura Development Company Limited (KDCL), Scott and saxby Limited (SSL), Eastern Investments Limited (IIL), Burrakar Coal company Limited and Borrea Coal Company Limited (BCCL).
The operational companies are OMDC, BSLC, KDCL, SSL and EIL, an investment company having major stake in equity of the operational companies like OMDC, BSCL and KDCL. Burrakar and Borrea Coal Company Limited became non-operational after nationalisation of coal mines.
The main area of operation of the company includes mining and marketing of iron ore, manganese, Limestone, dolomite, sinking of deep tube well and mineral exploration and investments.
The Left Government was urging the Centre for the revival of the Bird group of companies for quiet some time.
