Dalai Lama to visit city on January 15

Kolkata, Jan 12 (UNI) The Dalai Lama will visit the city on January 15 to inaugurate the 2550th Buddha Jayanti Celebration organised by Bauddha Dharmankur Sabha (BDS), Eastern Zonal Secretary of BDS Venable Baudhipal Vikhu said today.

The BDS on this occasion would request the state government to declare the Buddha Jayanti as a national holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act, sources said.

State secretery of WB Minority committee Herod Mullick said they would organise cultural programmes to felicitate the Dalai Lama.

The inaugural function would be followed by a National Seminar, an essay writing, art and painting exhibition for school students.

Free medical camps would be set up to mark the event, the sources said.
