Criticism on Nandigram issue attack on Bengal govt; CPI(M)
New Delhi, Jan 12 (UNI) The CPI(M) said criticism by various parties over the Nandigram incident is a political onslaught against the Left Front government in West Bengal.
The CPI(M) lashed out at its opponents in the state for indulging in a culture of violence and mayhem for political purposes.
In an editorial in party organ ''People's Democracy'', the CPI(M) claimed that the state government had not issued any notification for acquisition of land in Nandigram area.
''Confusion was created by some information given by the Haldia Development Authority in this regard. The HDC has no authority on land acquisition. Only the state government has authority under the Land Acquisition Act. Thus, unlike Singur, no orders were served and no notice was issued in Nandigram. Any transgression by the HDC on this score must merit a proper examination by the state government,'' the editorial said.
The CPI(M) said an important feature of the recent developments in Nandigram point towards an attempt to recreate the violence and mayhem allegedly spearheaded by the Trinamool Congress in Keshpur and Garbeta some years ago.
The criticism of the government constitutes a political onslaught against the Left Front, the CPI(M) alleged.
The party said the fact that the BJP, Jamaat, Congress, Trinamool Congress and a number of ultra-Left groups had joined hands alongwith NGOs point it is an anti-CPI(M) front.
The CPI(M) alleged the Trinamool Congress served in the NDA government led by the BJP which presided over the implementation of many economic liberalisation policies.
The Congress which heads the UPA coalition is reluctant to implement its own promises in the Common Minimum Programme related to improving the lot of agriculture and two-thirds of India that lived off it, the CPI(M) said.
The CPI(M) said too much depedence on agriculture for job opportunties was not prudent. Industrial development was the need of the hour but not the cost of agriculture, the party added.
