Bangladeshis rushing back to their country following emergency
Bongaon, Jan 12 (UNI) Declaration of emergency in Bangladesh yesterday prompted its nationals visiting India to rush back home.
The Petrapol border near here and Ghojadanga near Basirhat in North 24 Parganas were seen busy with a large number of home-bound people during the day today.
Customs sources said nearly 2000 worried Bangladeshis visiting India crossed the border since morning as the emergency was declared in Bangladesh through Petrapol corridor, which was almost double than that of the normal.
More than a thousand people also crossed the Indo-Bangla border through Ghojadanga during the day, customs sources added.
Incidentally, international trading of India was hardly affected today as the trading practically remained closed due to observance of weekly holiday in Bangladesh on Friday.
However, international bus service between Kolkata and Dhaka and vice versa was normal when Dhaka bound buses were seen almost full with passengers.
