Badal reiterates demand for transfer of Punjab DGP
Jalandhar, Jan 12 (UNI) Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) President and former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today reiterated his party's demand for transfer of state Director General of Police S S Virk, saying free and fair elections were not possible under him.
Talking to reporters here today, Mr Badal alleged that the DGP was ''committed to favour Chief Minister Amarinder Singh'' in the election at any cost and, therefore, he should be removed.
He said the Election Commission had once turned down his party's demand for Mr Virk's transfer but the party would continue to seek his removal.
Any officer from Punjab or outside should be entrusted the post of DGP during the elections, he said, adding that his party was having full faith and confidence in the state bureaucracy and police but alleged that only a few officers were working for the chief minister for their personal gains.
