New Delhi, Jan 12 (UNI) British Airways (BA) today announced reduction in its fuel surcharge on its shorter long-haul routes as a result of a fall in oil prices.

Fuel surcharge on tickets sold in Britain for long-haul flights scheduled at under nine hours in duration -- including those to Delhi and Mumbai -- will be reduced from 35 pounds per sector to 30 pounds (60 pounds for return trip).

The fuel surcharge on longer-range services will remain at 35 pounds per sector (70 pounds for return trip) to reflect the higher fuel consumption on these flights.

The short-haul fuel surcharge will remain unchanged at 8 pounds per sector (16 pounds for return trip).

''The cost of oil has reduced in recent weeks and therefore we believe that it is right that our customers benefit from lower prices on shorter flights,'' said BA's commercial director Robert Boyle in a statement.

The airline will also reduce its fuel surcharges by equivalent levels in all markets.
