Amar Singh to visit Punjab; slams Sonia for her politics on 'bodies'

Lucknow, Jan 12: Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh today charged Congress president Sonia Gandhi with playing politics ''on the bodies of dead children.'' Mr Singh further warned that ''selective targeting'' of the Uttar Pradesh government on law and order issue would not help.

Talking to reporters here, he said Ms Gandhi should end her politics ''on the bodies of dead children'' and deal with the situation in an apolitical manner.

''While bodies of children, possibly sexually abused, have been found from the rice mill of a Congress leader, the AICC is directing its attack on the UP government only.'' The administration did not try to hide the incident. Police in fact acted fast and cracked the case, he said defending the Mulayam Singh Yadav government.

Mr Singh said he would be visiting Muktsar to meet the grieving families of children, whose bodies were found in the abandoned rice mill compound.

Punjab Police said the hands and legs of the victims were tied and there were burn marks on the bodies.

The mill in Muktsar district was owned by a senior politician of Punjab's governing Congress party, Jagmeet Singh Brar, but police said there was no evidence to link the politician with the case.
