All India Police Meet begins in TN capital Jan 13

Chennai, Jan 12; The 50th All India Police Duty meet will be held here from tomorrow, Tamil Nadu Director General of Police and Organising Committee Member D Mukherjee said.

As many as 1,045 police personnel from states and the Centre are expected to participate in the six-day event, he said during a press conference here yesterday.

The meet aimed to improve the standards of professional excellence among the police forces.

The DGP said Tamil Nadu was hosting the meet for the fifth time.

It played the host in 1954,1974,1991 and 2000.

The meet would feature competitions in eight categories including scientific aids to investigation, computer awareness, police photography, videography, dog squad and anti-sabotage checks.

As many as 32 teams from all over India were expected to attend.

Tamil Nadu Police will be represented by 87 personnel.

Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala will declare open the meet open while Chief Minister M Karunanidhi will distribute the prizes during the closing ceremony on January 18,he added.

IG (Crimes) and Organising Secretary K Thukkaiandi said a welfare seminar would be also organised on January 18.

It would highlight the welfare measures for police personnel adopted by states. Besides, a four-day welfare exhibition would be also organised between January 14 and 17 where products made by policemen would be on display, he added.
