3 Rly workers run over by train

Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, Jan 12 (UNI) Three railway workers, including a gangman, were killed on the spot and another seriously injured as they were run over by 8518 Vishakhapatnam- Korba Link Express between Jairamnagar and Akaltara stations near here today.

The workers were engaged in track maintenance when they were entrapped by the speeding train. An inquiry has been ordered into the incident, a spokesman of South East Central Railway said today.

Gangman Ramkhilawan (50), contract worker Ms Jankibai(50) and another male worker were killed. Contract labour Ms Pramilabai (30), who was seriously injured, had been admitted to the Railway Hospital here.

Train movement on Bilaspur-Raigarh section was not affected by the accident, the spokesman said, adding the Link Express left for its onward journey after one hour halt at the spot.

The Railway authorities sanctioned solatium of Rs 15,500 to the gangman's family.
