Woman gets life imprisonment for murdering sister-in-law

Vadodara, Jan 11: A local court awarded life imprisonment to a woman for killing her sister-in-law after suspecting her of having an affair with her husband.

Vadodara District and Sessions Judge R H Sharma yesterday held Ranjanaben Rathod guilty of murdering her sister-in-law Urmila (25) and awarded the sentence. The Court, however, acquitted her husband Raman for lack of evidence.

On March 18 last year, Ranjanaben Rathod had a quarrel with her sister-in-law Urmila and in a fit of rage, she set Urmila on fire at her residence, which falls under the jurisdiction of Manjalpur police station.

Urmila, who was rushed to the SSG hospital with more than 95 per cent burns, died after giving her dying declaration before an executive magistrate and investigating police officer against Ranjana and her husband.
