Widespread opposition to medical bandh
Kottayam, Jan 11: Various organisations today came down heavily on the IMA for holding a 'medical bandh' in support of Dr P Ashokan of the Medical College Hospital here whose alleged negligence in treatment caused the death of Majo Joseph who sustained head injuries in a road accident.
Demanding compensation to the family, Majo Joseph Action Council Leader V N Vasavan, MLA and other action council leaders said doctors responsible for the death of Majo Joseph should be punished.
The IMA should withdraw the 'medical bandh' as it was a challenge to the public and justified corruption.
A march would be staged under the auspices of the action council to the Medical College tomorrow in support of the demand, they said.
Meanwhile, Solidarity Youth Movement came down heavily on Dr Ashokan. At a separate news conference here, they charged that several patients who were brought to the Medical College following accidents at different occasions died due to doctor's negligence.
Negligence on the part of the doctors was a common phenomenon at the Medical College they alleged and demand stern action to punish erring doctors.
The Solidarity Youth Movement would intensify their agitation against 'doctors' corruption and negligence.' The Youth Movement activists today staged a dharna and demonstration before the Medical College here.
Police arrested Asst Professor P Ashokan of the Medical College Hospital here on Tuesday in connection with corruption and the alleged negligence in providing timely treatment to Majo Joseph who succumbed to his injuries on Monday evening.
Joseph was admitted to the Medical College Hospital with head injuries sustained in a road accident on Sunday.
