RVC to Take Part in R-Day Parade for First Time

New Delhi, Jan 11 (UNI) The Remount Veterinary Corps (RVC) of the Indian Army -- given the privilege to depict its multifarious activities for the first time -- is planning to present a magnificent tableau at the Army Day Parade here on January 15 next and the Republic Day Parade on January 26.

Raised in 1779, RVC has completed 227 years of distinguished service. It is one of the oldest services of the Indian Army and has taken part in various actions in both the World Wars and in every war or conflict against the sovereignty of India post-independence.

It was presented with Colours by the President of India in 1989.

The planned RVC tableau depicts the multiple deployments of the Army dogs for mine and explosive detection, search and rescue operations during natural calamities such as avalanches, earthquakes, and landslides, counter-insurgency, counter-terrorism operations and VIP security.

It also showcases the breeding, rearing, and training of equines.

It is also committed to applied research modernisation in Veterinary Sciences. The Equine Breeding Stud (EBS) farm, located at Babugarh in Uttar Pradesh, has produced the first foal using the equine Embryo Transfer Technology (ETT).

The foal has been named 'Gaurav'' to denote the pride of the Army and the Nation.

The diagnostic facilities at the premier disease investigation and research lab of RVC are of international standard and recognised by the Government. It has also been nominated as the National Referral Lab.

RVC has a well organised infrastructure in the field of equine and canine breeding, rearing, training and deployment. In fact, it has the largest breeding and training organisation of equine and canines in the country In the international sports arena, too, RVC riders have made India proud having won the bronze medal consecutively at the Asian Games in Bangkok (Thailand, 1998), Busan (South Korea, 2002) and Doha (Qatar, 2006).

Lt Col Deep Ahlawat, Vishisht Seva Medal, Arjuna Awardee and the winner of the bronze medal at the recently concluded Asian games in Doha, will be leading this impressive tableau.
