Modified Railway Wagons flagged off to Malaysia
Tiruchirapalli, Jan 11 (UNI) The first consignment of 24 Converted Flat Wagons was flagged off to Malaysia from the Central Workshop at Goldenrock (GOC) of Southern Railway here today.
This was part of a prestigious Export contract order bagged by IRCON International Limited on behalf of Indian Railways from Malaysian Railways for the Rehabilitation and Conversion of 30 Meter Gauge (MG) coverted Wagons into Flat Wagons and rehabilitation of 18 Hopper Wagons.
Speaking after receiving the consignment from GOC officials, Joint General Manager (Mechanical), IRCON M Kannappan said the order was received from Malaysian Railways under Overseas Railway Track Rehabilitation Project, undertaken by IRCON International Limited, an Indian Railway subsidiary, which carries out Railway Projects in Developing Counries in Malaysia.
IRCON had placed the orders worth Rs 5.10 crore with GOC, he added.
He said these wagons had rendered more than 15 years of service on Indian tracks and the Railway Ministry had notified them to be surplus. Now, they have been modified to suit the conditions prevailing in Malaysia.
Chief Workshop Manager, GOC S Rangarajan said the converted Flat Wagons would be useful for transporting construction materials like rails and sleepers.
He said the consignment which was flagged off today would be shipped to Malaysia by next Sunday or Monday from Chennai Port and the second consignment to Malaysia during the middle of February.
