Mizoram urged to cargo unit in state's lone airport
Aizawl, Jan 11 (UNI) Mizoram has urged the Centre to set up a high-tech cargo-handling unit in the state's lone airport for the export of agricultural and horticultural products in bulk.
Officer on special duty, state civil aviation department, Wing Commander (retd) Joe Lalhmingliana said a survey was going on to find out the estimated quantity of goods to be imported and exported by air. This also includes aircraft carrying cargo for courier companies.
The cargo-handling facility would be mainly used to export perishable items like passion fruit, blue grapes, ginger and papaya.
He said the state sought help from Ministry of civil aviation to bankroll the cargo-handling project for ensuring cheaper and faster transport of perishable commodities from the state to rest of India.
