Withdrawal of special powers can solve hr issue in JK: Tarigami
Jammu, Jan 10 (UNI) Senior CPM leader and legislator M Y Tarigami today said the withdrawal of special powers provided to security forces can put an end to the human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir.
Referring to the Governor's address on the opening day of the budget session in the legislative assembly, Mr Tarigami said the security scenario in the state had improved and the government should go for a reassessment of special powers provided to the security forces under various provisions, like Armed Forces Special Powers Act or the ''disturbed area act''.
''It is time to take back these acts otherwise human rights violations will never end,'' the CPM MLA, who heads the 11-member people's democratic forum that supports the Jammu and Kashmir government said.
Earlier, a deputation of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) led by Mr Tarigami, who is also the president of its Jammu and Kashmir state committee, called on Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad last evening and submitted a memorandum demanding the implementation and enforcement of labour laws.
Among other issues, the citu also demanded speedy disposal of industrial disputes pending in different courts for prolonged periods.
