UP hikes honorarium of freedom fighters, age of homeguards

Lucknow, Jan 10 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government today decided to hike the honorarium of freedom fighters to Rs 5000 per month and extended the free bus facilities to their widows.

The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, this morning.

Announcing the decision, the CM said the monthly honorarium of the freedom fighters have been hiked from Rs 4500 to Rs 5000 while ex-gratia payment on their death have been raised to Rs 5000 from Rs 2000.

The government has also extended the free bus travel for the widows of freedom fighters, along with a companion.

The cabinet also decided to hike the retirement age of homeguards from 58 years to 60 years.

In another decision, Mr Yadav, urging the striking Shiksha Mitras to end their agitation, said that the government has decided to promote them in a time frame and give them time bound scale.
