NU Board of Studies Chairman convicted in revaluation scandal

Nagpur, Jan 10 (UNI) A special court here today convicted the Chairman of Nagpur University's Board of Studies in Mass Communication and the then scrutiniser in the confidential department in a revaluation scandal of 1995.

The court sentenced chairman Sunil Gayaprasad Mishra and scrutiniser Madhukar Smarth to twelve and a half years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 42,000 each.

The court issued an arrest warrant against Mishra, who is absconding and was not present when the judgement was pronounced.

The court, however, acquitted the then Controller of Examinations Prakash Mistry for lack of evidence after the prosecution itself admitted that he had not played any role in this particular instance.

The sentence was handed down by Special Judge A S Gattani, who is hearing a bunch of cases pertaining to the revaluation scam and fake mark lists and degrees scandal that rocked Nagpur University several years ago.
