2nd Sport Movies
Mumbai, Jan 10 (UNI) Entries from 32 countries will be vying for top honours in the second edition of 'Sport Movies and TV International Ficts' festival, the only worldwide festival dedicated to sports and movies, scheduled to start here from January 18-21.
The festival will feature films and documentaries on sports with top sports personalities from across the world in attendance. The venue of the festival is NGMA, Ketnav Theatre Pali Hill, Max Muller Bhavan.
The jury comprises luminaries such as National Award winner Naseerudin Shah, cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, sports personality Michael Ferreira, film critic Shradha Sukumaran, Exchange4Media CEO Anurag Batra and Censor Board member P Biswas.
Speaking on the occasion, Naseerudin Shah said, ''Documentaries capture life as it is. They do not fictionalise. I have been a part of serious cinema. I don't know whether the opportunity to be in serious films was dumped on me or was it the other way round. I think documentaries are significant.'' According to Michael Ferreria, ''There is so much more to life than we know about. If you have an open, curious, enquiring mind, documentaries are excellent. If you dare to be different you can reap rewards in so many creative ways.'' Started in 1982 the ''Sports Movies&TV'' festival is one of the most popular festivals in Milan, Italy. Some of the biggest names from Bollywood as well as from the European Cinema have participated in the festival. Holding the festival in India marks the country's entry into the grand finale of ''Sports Movies &TV'' to be held in Milan for the coveted ''Guirlande d'Honneur''.
The festival is organised by Federation Internationale Cinema Television Sportifs (FICTS), which has 100 countries as its members with patronage of IOC (International Olympic Committee).
In the first edition of of the festival in March last year, 80 films were screened from 20 countries. Last year two entries from India went to bag the prestigious ''Guirlande d'Honour'' in Milan.
