Two electrifying performances on 3rd day of NSD Festival
New Delhi, Jan 9 (UNI) On the coldest day of the year so far with mercury dipping as low as 2.6 degrees Celsius the adrenaline soared high with the two electrifying performances marking the third day of NSD's Bharat Rang Mahotsav.
'Hell's Bell and Frutive Folly' by Swiss theatre group-Compagnie Drift and 'Rajkumar Hemendrajit' an Assamese play by Anoop Hazarika, were the showed last evening.
Where 'Hell's Bell and Frutive Folly' plunged the spectators into surroundings far removed from everyday life, situated somewhere between heaven and hell in which human brutality often flashes amid professed and pointed irony. The Swiss play perfomed through intricate body movements with magnificent background score, was an amalgam of absurdities unfolding in a fascinating mixture of the tragic and the comic.
On the other hand, 'Rajkumar Hemendrajit' revolved around the story of a prince from Denmark trying to adopt Assamese mores.
The play was not only hilarious in its approach but touched the deeper sentiments as well.
The ninth edition of the yearly festival, which opened on January 6 with the performance of Nobody by Sasha Waltz, the celebrated dancer-cum-choreographer from Germany, will continue showcasing talents from all over the world for 15 days.
Of the 52 performances, 13 will be from Australia, Bangladesh, China, Pakistan, Germany, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Nepal, Poland, Sri Lanka, Switzerland and Uzbekistan, while 39 will be home productions.
The festival designed to celebrate the 'art of performance' has carved a niche for itself in the international arena. And as the trade purists say it is another way of provoking thoughts and evolving expressions of modernity keeping a pace with traditional forms.
