Steps on to upgrade Intelligence, ATS in K'taka
Bangalore, Jan 9: The Karnataka Government has convened a meeting on January 15 to discuss about modifying the rules for upgrading the Intelligence and Anti-Terrorist Squad departments, Home Minister M P Prakash said.
Talking to reporters here yesterday, he said terrorists have brought Bangalore in their radar to draw global attention to their activities and create terror in this peace-loving State.
A State level Commandant for coordinating the activities of the Anti-Naxal Squad would be appointed within a week.
The Minister said a 15-day Legislature session would commence on January 25, with Governor T N Chaturvedi addressing the joint session at 1100 hrs.
Mr Prakash said the Government had decided to initiate strict action against those indulging in illegal activities like sale of narcotics in Hampi.
He said the Government had taken note of large scale encroachment of lands adjacent to the monument and misusing it for holding religious programmes.
Mr Prakash said Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil would visit the State on January 15 to lay the foundation stone for setting an Indian Reserve Battalion camp at Munirabad in Koppal district.
The Government had decided to provide telephone facility in prisons for the benefit of prisoners in the State, he said, adding that it would start with Parappan Agrahara in the city in a week.
