Political parties unanimous over non-reduction of SC/ST seats
Ranchi, Jan 9 (UNI) Political parties in Jharkhand have unanimously favoured not to reduce the Assembly seats, reserved for Scheduled Castes and tribes, in an all party meeting called today to discuss the issue.
At the meeting by the ruling UPA and opposition legislators came to this conclusion with the suggestion of increasing the seats.
Leader of the Opposition Arjun Munda said the assembly seats should be increased and the state government send a proposal to the Centre in this regard.
Mr Munda suggested demarcation of seats on the basis of geographical structure not according to the population.
The legislators said a delegation comprising MLAs from all the parties should meet the President, Prime Minister and Union Home Minister to discuss the issue.
Others present in the meeting were Chief Minister Madhu Koda, Deputy Chief Minister Stephen Marandi and state president of BJP Yadunath Pandey among others.
