NHRC notice to Ghaziabad DC on beating up of student by teacher

New Delhi, Jan 9 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sent a notice to the Ghaziabad District collector, seeking a factual report within two weeks about a junior high school teacher allegedly beating up a student and injuring his right eye.

The Commission said if the contents of the newspaper report are true, it raise a serious issue of human rights violation of the student.

NHRC also directed a copy of the report be sent to the District Collector.

According to the December 22 report, the student was beaten up for not doing his homework by Mr Rashid.

The student underwent treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) where his father was told that his right eye was permanently damaged.

The report said the teacher always carried a stick and often used it in class.

The Commission has also sought a factual report within four weeks from the Chandigarh Administrator on reports on wrongful detention of a woman by police.

According to a December 23 newspaper report, Santosh from Karnal was arrested and taken to Chandigarh presuming that she was a proclaimed offender in a liquor smuggling case.

Police neither verified her husband's name nor her pictures with that of the accused. The report said the actual accused was arrested six years ago.
