Markfed to purchase agri-products from farmers: Chairman

Vijayawada, Jan 9 (UNI) To check increasing price rise of essential commodities, Markfed will purchase agri-products from the farmers, construct new godowns and increase the storing capacity of existing godowns, Markfed Chairman P Prabhakar said today.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the market price of essential commodities was high compared to earlier years.

To overcome the price rise, the state government had accorded permission to Markfed to purchase the commodities on commercial rates, which was much higher than the Minimum Support Price.

He said Markfed had registered a turnover of Rs 540 last fiscal.

Mr Prabhakar said if farmers sell their produce to the Markfed they can avail 20 per cent monetary concession on cripco and iffco urea, which would be supplied through 2,700 primary cooperative societies in the state.

To initiate the scheme, Markfed had communicated to the government to implement the ''b component'' policy, he added.
