Gujarat BJP unit weighs its chief in khadi

Bhuj, Jan 9: The local BJP honoured its State President Purushottam Rupala in a novel fashion, by weighing him against khadi.

About 1000 metres of khadi were required to offset Mr Rupala's weight of 94 kg, chief of Kutch party unit Tarachand Chheda said at a function held here yesterday.

He said the idea of using khadi to honour someone stems from Chief Minister Narendra Modi's exhortation to his partymen at a Gandhi Jayanti function on October 2 last, where he had appealed to his partymen to possess at least one pair of khadi clothes as there was need to help and sustain rural employment and encourage handloom weavers.

The mammoth cloth will be distributed to schools and ashram shalas, Mr Chheda added.
