Future of telecom rests on strategic coordination: Expert
Bangalore, Jan 9 (UNI) Strategic coordination between technology, business and services will be the deciding factor for the future of telecom, Motorola Inc Chief Architect and Senior Vice-President Hamid Ahmadi opined today.
Speaking at a media roundtable here as part of the International Conference on Communications Software and Middleware (Comsware), he said India had the potential to become the strategic hub of IT innovation.
Mr Ahmadi said the present communication services, built on a single service over a single specialised network infrastructure, proved costly and complex, preventing rapid launching of new and advanced services. Hence, the vertical product silos were giving way to an emerging horizontal structure, as multiple network technology types and devices was now joining with an IP core and broadband access. This had paved the way for a wider range of applications and devices, he added.
''Convergence of networks and service architecture is breaking down traditional industry barriers. Worldwide, mobile broadband and wireless penetration are driving the uptake. Challenges of this service-oriented convergence will transform the complexity at all levels into a simple user experience,'' he said.
The watchword for the present day telecom companies would be to provide end-to-end service, which gave seamless experience to the end user, anywhere and anytime, he added.
Comsware 2007 General Chair and Sasken Technologies Ltd Executive Director Dr G Venkatesh said the conference, which received 300 technical papers, targetted on innovative software methodologies to finished products.
''Since its inception last year, when it was held in New Delhi, Comsware has attempted to bring together people interested in the general area of networking and distributed systems from industry and academia across the globe. With inclusion of venture capital community and entrepreneurs this year, we believe this event will benefit all those connected to the communication and IT industry,'' he said.
The conference, which began on January seven, would end on January 12.
