Court remands Magistrate to CBI custody till Jan 12 in bribe case
Silvassa, Jan 9 (UNI) A local court today remanded Resident Deputy Collector and Additional District Magistrate J K Jain, who was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 60,000, to the Central Bureau of Investigaion's (CBI) custody until January 12.
He was produced in the District and Sessions court by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths, attached to Mumbai's CBI, this evening.
The ACB yesterday caught Jain red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 60,000 from the complainant Amrut D Patel. They also seized Rs 40,000 cash from his residence in a search operation. It was alleged that he had demanded a bribe in connection with a land sale.
CBI counsel Anil Kumar told the court that apart from seizing Rs 40,000 cash and the bribe amount of Rs 60,000, the ACB sleuths also searched Jain's 21 lockers in Delhi and impounded Rs 43 lakh from them.
He also told the court that the ACB found documents of two other flats, belonging to Jain, which were also seized.
The court then ordered Jain to CBI remand for three days.
Earlier on April 3, 2005, Resident Deputy Collector Vijay Sharma was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh.
