AIMPLB flays Mulayam for not expediting Babri Masjid trial

Chennai, Jan 9 (UNI) The All India Muslim Personnel Law Board (AIMPLB) today flayed the Mulayam Singh Yadav Government in Uttar Pradesh for not issuing a notification for expediting the trial in the Babri Masjid demolition case.

Talking to newspersons here in connection with Board's 19th General session to be held here from tomorrow, Board President Syed Mohamad Rabe Nadvi said the three-day session would discuss ''in what way the UP government should be made to issue the notification at the earliest.'' He said after the CBI filed the common chargesheet, clubbing together the two FIRs, the Alahabad High Court had directing the UP Government after consulting with it, to issue a notification to confer the jurisdiction to one of the courts.

Mr Singh, at the time of assuming office assured to issue a notification, giving the power to the Lucknow Court to try the accused named in both the FIRs, but failed to fulfill its commitment, Mr Nadvi said.

Those facing charges in the demolition case included BJP leaders L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharati, Ashok Singhal and Hari Vishnu Dalmia, among others.

Mr Nadvi regretted that inspite of the declaration, Mr Singh had not issued the notification and even after 14 years there was no effort to bring the culprit to book. The session would dicuss this sad commentary on the rule of law and administration of criminal justice in the country, he added.

The session would also discuss the issue of compulsory registration of marriages and would discuss its committee's report on the bill proposed by the National Women Commission. ''No law should impose any condition which goes against the religious rules of a community,'' he said.

Mr Nadvi the Board would oppose Uniform Civil Code and these issues would be discussed during the three day session, which would culminate in a rally on January 12.
