Lucknow, Jan 8 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government, in order to boost the industrial sector, has cleared the proposal for setting up of three new distilleries by Bajaj Hindusthan, Dhampur Sugar Mills and Dayal Breweries, thus becoming the largest producer of potable and industrial alcohol in the country.

With the addition of fresh capacity, the state will emerge as leader in production of potable and industrial alcohol in the country, sources claimed.

The total installed capacity for potable alcohol in the state will go up to 5,798 lakh litres annually and 6,995 litres of industrial alcohol per annum.

The existing distillery of Dhampur Sugar Mills (DSM) group at Dhampur in Bijnor district with a production capacity of 462 lakh litres of industrial alcohol annually has been allowed to produce 369.6 lakh litres of potable alcohol within licensed capacity of 462 lakh litres.

The new distillery of the DSM group proposed at Rajpura in Badaun district with a licensed capacity of 600 lakh litres has been allowed to produce 480 lakh litres of potable alcohol. With this, the new unit can produce 480 lakh litres of potable alcohol out of the licenced capacity of 600 lakh litres and rest will be industrial alcohol.

The area falls in the Gunaur assembly constituency, represented by state Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.

The DSM group will be investing Rs 750 crore for setting up new sugar mills, co-generation power plants and distilleries in the state.

Dayal Breweries will set up a new distillery at Tapri in Saharanpur district. The new unit will have the licensed capacity to produce 180 lakh litres of alcohol annually out of which the new unit has been permitted to produce 144 lakh litres of potable alcohol and rest industrial alcohol. Dayal breweries will invest Rs 122 crore in the new distillery in Saharanpur.

A license was given to the Bajaj Hindusthan group for producing 200 lakh liters of potable alcohol at its Gola unit in Lakhimpur Kheri district in October 2005.

On the request of the company, the government has allowed the Bajaj group to transfer the license to produce same quantity of potable alcohol at its new sugar mill at Kinauni in Meerut district.
