'UP govt yet to seek CBI probe of Nithari case'
New Delhi, Jan 8: The Congress today said the Uttar Pradesh government had not yet sent a letter to the Centre seeking a CBI probe into the Nithari killings and charged the state police with trying to tamper with the evidence.
The Home Ministry was yet to receive any communication from the UP government even days after Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav's announcement on a CBI inquiry, Congress Spokesman Satyabrat Chaturvedi told reporters.
It was reprehensible that the Chief Minister was not willing to meet the families of Nithari village whose children had been killed and share their grief, the Congress said.
Mr Mulayam Singh was perhaps the first Chief Minister who could not spare time to address the problems arising from such a heinous crime, he said.
On the other hand, the state police was making attempts to fudge records and destroy evidence, he said.
