New Delhi, Jan 8 (UNI) The Supreme Court today ordered a CBI probe into the triple murder and dacoity, which took place in Bijnaur district around four years ago.

In his petition before the bench comprising Justice A R Lakshmanan and Justice Altamas Kabir, Shafique Ahmed alleged that local police were trying to shield influential killers of his wife, young daughter and son who had also looted Rs 2 lakh from the family.

The petitioner, who has also demanded a compensation of Rs 20 lakh, contended that for the last over three years, the local police had not been able to crack the case and ''had been depending on 'Moulvis' and 'Tantriks' to trace the culprits''.

An FIR of the triple murder case that took place on February 3, 2003, was lodged at the Chandpur Police Station in Bijnaur district.

The investigation of the case was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) after agitation by the villagers and social organisations.

However, the CID had filed a closure report in the court of the Magistrate which was strongly opposed by the petitioner and the Magistrate ordered reinvestigation after rejecting the closure report.

The Petitioner also contended that he was apprehending threat to his life.
