Pay adequate compensation to victims: Sonia tells Gogoi
New Delhi, Jan 8 (UNI) Congress President Sonia Gandhi has asked Asom Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to pay ''adequate compensation'' and provide security to the recent victims of insurgency.
In a statement issued here, Ms Gandhi also appealed to the people of Asom to maintain ''peace and tranquility in this hour of difficulty.'' Strongly condemning the senseless killing of innocent, harmless, unarmed poor people, she said such violence would not lead to any solution, rather it would retard the economic progress of the state.
''Violence has no place in a democratic country like ours.
Solution to all problems can be found through dialogue,'' she said.
Offering her condolence to the members of the bereaved families, Ms Gandhi said she was pained and felt deeply for those unfortunate victims and their loved ones.
''I have instructed the state government to provide security to the people and adequate compensation to the victims' familites,'' she said.
