Patil assures domestic peace for overseas Indian investors

New Delhi, Jan 8 (UNI) Home Minister Shivraj Patil today asserted that India was a safe place for investment while assuring the overseas Indians that the government here was as effective as in any other country in dealing with violent activities of some groups and individuals.

"For developments of all kinds, what is needed at the base is the stability, security and broadmindedness and futuristic approach also. We are duty bound to provide security and safety to all who come to and live in India," he said while addressing the overseas Indian delegates at the "Pravasi Bharatiya Divas" on the second day.

Mr Patil said India, like many parts of the world, had also suffered from violent activities. "But we are conscious of the fact that these aberrations could and should be controlled and contained and should not overpower the minds and thinking of the people who value peace and tranquility ...We have the capacity to do it... We would achieve these objectivesm," he added.

He said 99 per cent of the people in India wanted peace. In this context, he said the government and the society have the strength and will produce the desired results.

"On this count, no apprehension should be entertained by any enterprising group of persons or persons. We would be as effective in this respect, as any other country or part of the world can be." Saying that areas like electronics and genetics hold tremendous scope for cooperation and development, he asked the overseas Indians to pay attention to oceans which are very rich in natural wealth.

"This is a vigin area. We can do a lot, to use it for the benefit of the entire humanity. This area is the area of the future, in which, all parts of the world should become more active and cooperative.

You would be able to help a great deal in this respect,'' he said.
