New Delhi, Jan 8 (UNI) JSW Steel Ltd today said it has increased its slab making capacity to 3.8 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) from 2.5 mtpa, following the commissioning of its 1.3 mtpa project in November 2006.

Consequent to the capacity enhancement, during the third quarter FY07, the slab production at 7,30,274 mt went up by 28 per cent over the corresponding quarter of previous year.

''The commencement of integrated production from the new 1.3 mtpa Slab making facility and stabilisation of the Hot Strip Mill pursuant to modernisation have resulted in increased volumes,'' Mr Seshagiri Rao, Director (Finance) of the company said.

The HR Coil production was also raised by 20 per cent at 6,42,724 mt in Q3FY07 as against 5,33,548 mt in Q3FY06.

The production of Pellets at 955,000 mt and galvanised products at 20,0,983 mt in Q3FY07 were marginally lower due to shutdown of its pellet plant for capacity enhancement and change in product mix of galvanised products.
