Jail inmates go on hunger strike to protest prisoner's death
Ratlam, MP, Jan 8 (UNI) A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the death of a prisoner in a jail here even as jail inmates went on a hunger strike today to protest the death.
Jail inmates alleged that Khetalpur village-resident Nanalal Dhakad (27), an accused in a July 2006 murder case, was not keeping well from several days but was not being provided treatment. His condition deteriorated last night and died.
On receiving information about the hunger strike by jail inmates, the Collector and the Superintendent of Police reached the jail. The strike ended following assurance that their demands would be looked into.
The prisoners accused the jail administration of inhuman treatment.
Meanwhile, sub-jailer Hiralal Parmar said Nanalal's health deteriorated this morning and he was taken to hospital where he died. However, he could not specify the disease which took the prisoner's life.
