Former Nagar Panchayat President booked for killing SP leader

Jaunpur, Jan 8 (UNI) Six persons, including former Nagar Panchayat President, have been arrested for allegedly killing a Samajwadi Party (SP) leader here.

SP leader and businessman Amarnath Gupta (40) alongwith his aide Guddu Khan (35) were shot dead in Murtazabad village under Kekarat police station area, when the duo were on their way to Pesra area yesterday.

Police said the slain leader's sibling lodged an FIR against former Nagar Panchayat president (Kekarat) Ashok Sahu, his brothers Vinod, Sanju, Rajeev and two unidentified persons.

Earlier, Ashok Sahu was arrested for allegedly murdering Amarnath's brother on May 31, 2005. Later, he was released on bail.

The reason behind the crime is not known, police said.

A hunt is on to nab the accused.
