Fencing Senior Nationals from Wednesday

Bangalore, Jan 8 (UNI) More than 600 fencers from 26 states will be seen in action in the XVII Senior National Fencing Championship (Men and Women) to be conducted at Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium here from January 10 to 13.

Karnataka Olympic Association (KOA) President K Govindraj told newspersons here today that fencers from the Army and the Navy would also participating in the four-day event. This was for the first time that the Navy fencers had qualified for the Nationals.

Stating that Karnataka had produced many international fencers, he said that Sumit S Naidu and Lakshmi, medal winners in last Commonwealth Games would be seen in action in the Championship.

Men and Women were the defending Champions, while Punjab Men and Women were the runners-up in the last edition of the Championship that was held at Amritsar.
